Above: an overview of all seven films, first screened at the Japanese Embassy in London.
In mid 2017, Theobald Fox partnered with the Japanese National Tourist Organisation to produce a series of seven promotional films, each exploring a different 'untranslatable' word or feeling; something only understandable by visiting the country.
From the JNTO press release: "Shot in Osaka and Kyoto, on the Shima Peninsula in Mie – home of the famous Ama pearl divers – and the mountain trails of the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama – which was recently named one of the top five regions to visit in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2018 – the immersive films allow viewers to take a walk through the world of real Japan. There are no clichés, just authentic experiences expressed through scenes of daily life."
Created and directed by Matt Purdon, filmed and edited by Matt Purdon and Dan Bassett.
Ukiyo - "The Floating World". Getting under the skin of Osaka with my personal favourite of the series.
